Unlike additive manufacturing processes, the part size or volume is rarely the driving cost factor for custom machined parts. Cost is largely driven by the complexity of the geometry and the fixturing required to achieve that geometry in the specified material. We review each component in detail and determine a cost based on the estimated time to program, set-up, machine and finish your part.
We are limited only by the size of the raw material. Our largest machines have a 30” x 60” bed but we have made larger parts.
We understand that timing is critical and we quote the fastest possible delivery based on the specific details of each project we review and our current workload. Once a PO is issued we confirm the expected ship date and have an exceptional record of meeting these dates.
A 3D CAD file such as a STEP or Parasolid is preferred, but a dimensioned drawing may be acceptable for relatively straight forward parts. Additionally, we need to know the quantity of parts, the material and the finish requirements.
Absolutely. Tighter tolerances may require programming iteration and more machine time so please make sure your specific requirements are provided with the quote request. We will review your drawings and let you know if we have any questions.
We work with a wide variety of plastics ranging from commonly used ABS and Polycarbonate to more exotic engineering grades such as Ultem and Torlon. We also have numerous metal options such as aluminum, magnesium, brass, steel, stainless steel and titanium. For Industrial Design mock-ups we stock an 18lb rigid Urethane foam that machines quickly and holds fine details well.
We understand how important the confidentiality of your projects is to the success of your company. Reed Prototype & Machining is committed to maintaining the confidentiality of all our clients and we are happy to sign your NDA. We will never show or discuss your project without your prior written approval.
